MaryJ: Silkscreen Series
Silkscreen Print
Inspired by a quote from Andy Warhol "I wonder if it's possible to have a love affair that lasts forever." this silkscreen series explores the enduring nature of love, celebrity, and cultural memory. While relationships may fade, the stories surrounding them often outlive the people themselves.
The series originated from MaryJ, a 2012 drawing featuring a collage of Marilyn Monroe and John F. Kennedy, framed by sunflowers inspired by Claude Monet’s Bouquet of Sunflowers. In 2013, while experimenting with the silkscreen process, I revisited the work through a new medium. Influenced by Andy Warhol's iconic printmaking practice, the series reinterprets the original drawing through repetition, color, and layered imagery, creating a dialogue between four enduring cultural icons whose legacies continue to shape art and popular culture.
